Count down to the Three Peaks Challenge for Shropshire agents
The countdown is on for a challenge which will see a local team ascend 3,000 metres, covering some 24 miles in 24 hours. The Balfours team of 9 are taking on the Three Peaks Challenge, namely the 3 national peaks of England, Wales and Scotland, in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support.
The team, who are based in the company’s Shrewsbury and Ludlow offices, began combined training back in the spring, with some seasoned runners and others discovering what they can achieve given a new challenge. Team co-ordinator, Hannah Fenwick, explains: “We have gradually built-up stamina, both as individuals and as a pack. Preparation has taken the team up Yr Wyddfa, best known to many as Snowdon, twice and Cadair Idris once.
“We will be taking on the Three Peaks over Wednesday and Thursday July 17 and 18, starting with Ben Nevis in Scotland, then travelling to Cumbria’s Scafell Pike, the smallest of the 3 mountains, but considered by many to be the hardest challenge and finally closest to home, yet over the border, Yr Wyddfa in Wales. We are hoping for both good weather conditions and of course delay free travelling between each Peak,” Hannah adds.
Aiming to raise £2,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support, the team effort has already yielded very nearly half their target. Balfours partner, Frances Steer who is also hiking adds: “Balfours has lost several very valuable members of its team to cancer in the past decade, so fund raising resonates deeply.
